Ride the River 2017

Minnesota to Louisiana, 2,320 Miles

Day 3 - itasca to Cass Lake

Leah

a quite moving experience.  The Mississippi is just a small, unremarkable stream here - what has been deemed the official source.  We figured out (courtesy of Todd's googling skills) that we will beat a drop of water that starts here and travels downriver to New Orleans by about a month and a half.

Day 1 - International Falls to Northhome

Leah

A beautiful, sunny Minnesota day.  Started at the Canadian Border.  Managed to convince two sets of border agents we were slightly crazy. 71 miles or so, basically through wilderness.  Lots of scrub pine - a total of three small towns, one with 56 residents, two with a couple of hundred.  We had the novel experience of lunch at the "muni" in Big Falls - the town owns the only bar/liquor store/restaurant in the area.  Nightfall finds us in beautiful Northome minn - home of the brown bear drive in.  Can't beat the snowstorm.

Jacob joined us last night - in time to celebrate his 30th birthday.  Somewhat hard to wrap my mind around that reality.

managed to touch Canadian soil with only minor jawboning with border guards on both sides.

Starting out

Leah

Ride the River 2017 kicks off tomorrow.

Today has been a day of organizing, re-packing the trailer, watching the weather, and generally getting antsy.  International Falls is a small Northwoods town, with the notable feature of being the home of Bronco Nogurski.  Other than that, the big excitement was watching a bunch of sheriff's deputies bust someone in a motel room right outside of our lunch cafe.  Drama.

We are eager to set off.  Personally, i can feel the last few years already begin to slowly drain out of my psyche.
